Honest Thoughts from a Speech Therapist

Hey friend,
I hope you’re having an amazing day - it’s Thursday already and let’s get at it.
Recently we’ve been getting more and more enquiries about Gestalt Language Processing.
It’s gotten so popular that parents and therapists are discussing it left right and centre.
So I’m here to tell you my thoughts…
Children speaking in frozen phrases (words used in these phrases are not used flexibly in other phrases or sentences) isn’t a new thing.
In fact, people always memorise funny phrases in foreign languages. On top of my head, I have a bunch of movies and TV shows.
Heck, what is “Wingardium Leviosa”? - why do you remember this phrase from Harry Potter?
We all gestalt process. It doesn’t mean children or people do this exclusively.
To put stages and change therapy goals to help children who are using frozen phrases is quite mind-bending…
You can watch my full breakdown here:
Look - this isn’t an exclusive Autistic feature either. Of course, if we use “scripts” to analyze any child’s language behaviour, that’s exactly what you’d get!
You’d see scripts as important language samples.
By increasing the number of scripts children can use, they take longer to learn the building blocks for sentence building…
Which are words (nouns, verbs, adjectives)!
Lastly, a disclaimer, I’m not “certified” with any Gestalt Language Processor treatment approaches.
At Agents of Speech, we’re open-minded to hear what your thoughts are - so leave a comment or reply to this email if you want to have a discussion.
Thank you!
Ming
P.S. - We have free courses that teach children to go from nonverbal to speaking in sentences. Click here to apply!
